 Item Effect
The Smart Bomb is an item from the Star Fox series that appears in Super Smash Bros. Brawl. It appears with any other item but is far more dangerous. When it hits an enemy, or just reaches a certain point in its throw, the bomb explodes and causes large amounts of damage. It expands outwards, heading enemies at a close and medium range and racking up percentage points the whole time of the hit. Once it finishes its explosion, it hits the enemy with a decent amount of knock back that could KO them at high enough damages. It is a good strategy to throw the smart bomb at your opponent while they are off the stage and in the air since they're at the end of the stage.
As with all explosives, it's a good idea to be sure that your target is a safe distance away from you so you aren't caught in the blast as well. The range of the blast grows slightly until the explosion is over, so keep trying to knock others into the blast while keeping yourself a safe distance away. It's also a good rule of thumb to be sure that nobody is right behind you as you throw it since they can easily knock you into your own attack. It's also easier to hit an airborne target as they don't have the luxury of being able to run like those on the ground. When trying to dodge this, be sure to keep in mind that the range grows slightly until the explosion ends, so don't think you're safe just because the beginning of the explosion misses you. Staying away from a person holding a Smart Bomb is also a good rule of thumb as it will lessen the chances you have of being attacked. Only jump in the air if this item has been thrown directly toward you from the ground as you have fewer ways to dodge this while in the air. If you do get caught in the blast, you can attempt to lessen the damage taken by rapidly moving your control stick in the direction to the closest edge of the blast you find yourself in. If timed right, you will still take some damage, but not get knocked back in the final part of the explosion. It's also worthy of note that any attack that makes contact with a Smart Bomb will set it off on contact.
