[edit] Background

Rosalina is the princess and protector of the cosmos who debuted in Super Mario Galaxy, and has since appeared in many other games in the Mario franchise including Super Mario Galaxy 2, Mario Kart Wii, Mario Kart 7, and Super Mario 3D World.

She travels the stars as the adopted mother of the Lumas, piloting the Comet Observatory, which also serves as a home for her and her Lumas. Every 100 years, the Comet Observatory orbits Mushroom World, scattering shimmering star bits into the peaceful land below. Residents of the Mushroom World call this the Star Festival.

However, on one fine festival, Bowser attacked the Comet Observatory and stole all of its Power Stars, and even the Grand Stars, rendering the ship out of power and unable to move through space.

Mario stumbles across Rosalina and the Lumas after wakening up on a small planet following a failed attempt to rescue Princess Peach from the arms of Bowser, whose intentions were to use the stolen stars from Rosalina's ship to create a brand new galaxy to which he would rule.

Mario must recover the Power Stars in order to restore the Comet Observatory to full power, which will enable Rosalina to take him to the centre of the universe, where he will find Princess Peach and come face to face with Bowser.

[edit] Storybook

Rosalina frequently reads to the Lumas in the library, and during his adventures, Mario accidentally walks in during one of these stories. He learns about Rosalina's past, the creation of the Comet Observatory, and how she came to be the mother of the Lumas.

[edit] Super Smash Bros 4

Rosalina was announced as a playable fighter in Super Smash Bros 4 on the 18th of December, 2013 in an Nintendo Direct. She fights alongside a Luma, and is a very tall, but lightweight character.

[edit] Luma

Luma can be sent out to fight separately from Rosalina, or be kept by her side to act as a shield. Luma has a separate damage meter, however, and can be KO'd like any other character. Rosalina can summon a new Luma if her previous one has been KO'd, and KO'ing a Luma does not count as a point.

There are several different colours of Luma, although the is change is purely aesthetic and do not effect their behaviour.
