"Throw a Red Shell, and it will home in on random characters and send them flying straight up. Red Shells moving around the surface are dangerous to all players, but they may also present attack chances for players with good timing and strategy. Red Shells won't leave the platform they're on once they start moving." Credit[1]

The Red Shell is an item from the Mario series; it appeared in the first two installments of the series but did not return in Super Smash Bros Brawl. When thrown it will slide across the ground like a Green Shell. However unlike a Green Shell once it reaches an edge, or sliding for a certain distance it will turn around and come right back. While the shell is sliding around it will do damage to anyone it hits, including the person who threw it. It also seems to go for the nearest person or a person who lands on the ground/platform with the red shell on it. It is a good idea to throw this item on a platform, so you won't get hit by it. Then throw your opponent on top of the platform and they will be repeatively hit by the shell.
