Items are a main part in the Smash Bros. series. A different item set was incorporated into each game and have been used for mindless fun ever since. Items usually appear at random and could range from powerful to worthless. In all the games there has been a way to unlock an item select so that you could set the appearance rate and what items you want to show up. Usually in the competitive circuit items are frowned upon and as such, are not used.
