 Item Effect
The Gooey Bomb is a new item to the Super Smash Bros. franchise, first appearing in Super Smash Bros. Brawl. The Gooey Bomb looks like an orange blob. When thrown, the Gooey Bomb will stick onto anything. It will eventually explode damaging whoever is nearby the explosion. If it stuck onto a character, it can be passed onto other characters until it detonates. If it starts flashing and it's stuck to you, the only way to avoid damage is by timing a dodge right before it explode. Lucario can use his Down B to avoid taking damage from this.
To pass it onto a character, you must attack them with any melee-attack.
Like with other explosives, you must play cautiously with a Gooey Bomb, especially when it starts flashing. It's much more dangerous when it's stuck on a player since it's a moving explosive then. If someone has this item in their hand or stuck to them, just keep away from them. Just passing by a player with this item can make it stick to you. Once a Gooey Bomb starts flashing, it begins sticking to anyone just on casual contact whereas melee-attacks are required to make it stick to people when it's not flashing. You'll have 2-4 seconds to time a dodge to avoid damage when it begins flashing. The only character that can avoid damage without using a dodge is Lucario with his down special technique, Double Team. It's much easier to avoid damage from the explosion if you can time a roll dodge properly as the explosion range isn't quite as wide as other explosives like the Bob-omb. Also, if it's stuck to the ground, any single attack will make the Gooey Bomb explode.
