 Item Effect
The Fan is a close-range item featured in all three Smash Bros. games. Despite its appearance and its weak potential for damage, it has a high combo advantage. When used, the fan pulls an enemy closer and keeps them close. If continually hit with the fan damage builds higher and higher. With a few close combos the fan also has the ability to take out an opponent's shield. Despite how it looks, the fan is a powerful item when used correctly. It also deals great damage when thrown at an opponent and will send them flying upwards. Throwing a fan at Alloys in Super Smash Bros. Brawl knocks them off the stage instantly.
 Trophy Description
An item made by taking thick paper, folding it accordion-style, taping one end, and fanning out the other. It's mainly used as a comedic prop by comedians from the Kansai region of Japan. Why it's in Smash Bros. is a mystery. Grab this unique item and whack foes to turn them in the opposite direction. Throw a fan at a foe, and that character will fly straight up.
Unlike most battering items like the Beam Sword and Home-Run Bat, you want to use the Fan more like a combo attack than a single strike in order to use it to the maximum effect. By repeatedly tapping the A button, you can trap your opponent in an endless combo that is nearly impossible to counter. Once the damage builds up high enough, you can finish them off with a decisive blow. In a way, you should think of using a Fan to get damage to accumulate at a rapid rate rather than using it for a decisive blow. Remember that when you throw it, your opponent will be sent straight up from the knock back, so it's not a good item to use to pick off an opponent trying to make a recovery since it will usually help them more than it hurts them. As mentioned earlier, throwing the Fan against Alloys in the Multi-Man Brawls in Super Smash Bros. Brawl will amount to instant KOs until the Fan finally drops. The best strategy is to trow a Fan upward in an area where the Alloys respawn so it will continually hit Alloys as they appear until it falls to the ground.
