Event Match
From Smash Bros - Wiki on Neoseeker
An Event Match is basically a condition which you are under and you must complete something in a certain amount of time or anything along those lines. Some Event Matches allow you to unlock certain unlockables, like for example a stage. As you progress through the game you will unlock more Event Matches, There are also Co-Op Event Matches were you can team up with a buddy to do some more Events.
Super Smash Bros. Melee
Events 1-10-
Available from the start.
#1: Trouble King
Character: Mario
Description: The first event match is, as you would expect, very easy. You simply need to KO Bowser twice, and the match is complete.
#2: Lord of the Jungle
Character: Giant Donkey Kong
Description: While your DK is giant, your opponent is tiny, meaning that actually hitting him is going to be a problem thanks to the massive difference in size. Try and lure the tiny DK in and hit him with DKs Ground Pound, and make sure that any attack youre going to use isnt going to go over the tiny DKs head.
#3: Bomb-Fest
Character: Choose
Description: This event pits your character of choice against Samus and Link. Samus and Link are bomb-happy in this match, so keep your guard up to avoid getting pummeled. You only need to score one KO on both Samus and Link to win, so you shouldnt have any troubles.
#4: Dino-Wrangling
Character: Choose
Description: Your enemy here is a Giant Yoshi, who has trouble getting around the small stage thanks to his massive size. Yoshi is prone to simply falling off the stage himself, but even if he doesnt, it isnt hard to rack up a considerable amount of damage against him because of his size.
#5: Spare Change
Character: Ness
Description: In this event, youre fighting against Captain Falcon in a Coin Battle scenario. You have 1:20 to collect a total of 200 coins, so use your Smash attacks constantly (as they release more coins). Try to avoid being KOed, as doing so will make you lose around half of your coins.
#6: Kirbys on Parade
Character: Choose
Description: The three opposing Kirbys in this match stick together while trying to avoid you. Rush them all at once, and score two KOs on each of the three Kirbys to win the match.
#7: Pokemon Battle
Character: Choose
Description: The idea of this match is to have a Pokemon battle with Pikachu. Regular attacks dont do any damage to either of you, so the only way to get hurt is by Pokemon released from Pokeballs. Pikachu is quick, so choose a fast character who can get to the Pokeballs before he can. Score two KOs on Pikachu to win the match.
#8: Hot Date on Brinstar
Character: Choose
Description: This is a simple one-on-one fight between you and Samus on Brinstar, with a twist: You start off with over 100% damage. Any hit from Samus can be deadly, so choose a heavy character such as Bowser who isnt hindered as much by 100% damage as other characters, and can also dish out plenty of KO moves himself.
#9: Hide 'n' Sheik
Character: Choose
Description: Your opponents in this match are two Zelda, however they can only be beaten if you KO them whilst in Sheik form, otherwise they simply respawn with 0% damage. Attack the Zeldas with weak attacks, then finish them off when they switch to Sheik.
All-Star Match 1
Character: Choose
Description: All-Star matches are a type of Event that you will be seeing a lot of, but thankfully this first match isnt all that difficult. You fight Mario, DK, Yoshi, Peach and Bowser in succession; however your damage from the previous battle isnt healed when you begin the next. You must defeat all 5 opponents without dying twice. If you use your best character, you shouldnt have any troubles with this event.
Events 11-30-
Clear the first 10 Event matches to unlock.
#11: King of the Mountain
Character: Choose
Description: The aim of this match is not to kill the opposing Ice Climbers, but to simply survive the rapidly scrolling mountain for one minute. Simply run away from the Ice Climbers and you shouldnt have any troubles.
#12: Seconds, Anyone?
Character: Choose
Description: Your opponent is Captain Falcon, and both you and he start out with 100% damage. You only have seven seconds to KO Captain Falcon, so choose a character with a quick and powerful Smash Attack and let Falcon walk into it.
#13: Yoshi's Egg
Character: Yoshi
Description: In order to complete this Event, you must keep the Egg in one piece for the entire 55 second time limit. While on the boat, dont pick up the Egg and lure the opponents away. Once the boat sinks, grab the Egg and start using the multiple platforms to keep away from any adversaries and ensure to keep the Egg alive.
#14: Trophy Tussle 1
Character: Choose
Description: The stage is a giant Goomba trophy, and you are facing three random opponents. You have three minutes to KO each opponent twice, with two lives of your own. Completing this Event earns you the Goomba trophy.
#15: Girl Power
Character: Choose
Description: A one-on-three match, pitting you against Samus, Zelda and Peach. This match doesnt have any special conditions, so just choose a character youre good with and beat the girls down with pure skill. Thats all there is to it.
#16: Kirby's Air Raid
Character: Kirby
Description: You have 38 seconds to kill all 10 wandering Kirbys, but the catch is, only direct hits with a Warp Star can damage them. This event is unbelievably simple, so long as you have some basic skill at piloting the Stars.
#17: Bounty Hunters
Character: Samus
Description: You and Captain Falcon are on a team against Bowser, and you have two minutes to take him out just once. While the task itself is easy, the special condition is that you must be the one who kills Bowser, not Falcon. Simply get into the fight and wait for the opportune moment to take him out.
#18: Link's Adventures
Character: Link
Description: This is a simple one-on-one match between Link and his dark duplicate. No time limit and no special conditions make this a very simple Event indeed.
#19: Peach's Peril
Character: Mario
Description: The classic scenario is acted out once more. Bowser is set to focus on attacking Peach, and it is your job to either protect her for the full minute or KO Bowser before he KOs Peach. Both goals are fairly easy to achieve, so just fight as hard as you can.
#20: All-Star Match 2
Character: Choose
Description: This time, youll be facing Samus, Link, Zelda, Captain Falcon and Fox in succession. This match is very much like the last All-Star match, however this time you have to complete the Event within four minutes. This is the most difficult Event so far, but shouldnt be unbeatable if you use a character you are good with. Again, damage carries over from fight to fight.
#21: Ice Breaker
Character: Choose
Description: In order to complete this Event, youll need to KO the two Nanas, and only the two Nanas, within the one minute time limit. Try knocking both Ice Climbers into the air, then separate the two so that Pop doesnt get in the way of your attacks. Dont rush yourself, otherwise youll get sloppy and take out one of the Popos.
#22: Super Mario 128
Character: Choose
Description: The stage is Mushroom Kingdom II, and your opponents are 128 tiny Marios. Use characters with good sweeping attacks (such as Links Up+B and DKs Down+B), and try and prevent the small Marios from hitting you too often. The sheer number of them means that the attack damage will eventually add up.
#23: Slippy's Invention
Character: Choose
Description: You must KO Fox and Falco twice, the catch: Theyre both invisible. They still take damage, but they are very difficult to see. Use attacks with plenty of room for error, dont try and be precise because chances are youll mess up your positioning.
#24: The Yoshi Herd
Character: Choose
Description: You have only two minutes to kill the entire Yoshi herd, consisting of 30 Yoshis. The Yoshis are lightweight, so killing them isnt that hard, but there are a lot of them and killing them all within the time limit will take some skill.
#25: Gargantuans
Character: Giant Bowser
Description: You and the Giant DK will have trouble getting around the small platforms that litter this stage, so the safest way to fight is to let DK come to you. Kill him twice to be victorious. Dont worry about the tiny Mario and Peach, theyre just there for looks.
#26: Trophy Tussle 2
Character: Choose
Description: The rules are the same as the first Trophy Tussle (Three minutes, three random opponents, everyone with two stock), only this time youre playing on a giant Entei trophy and your opponents are better fighters. Complete the match to get the Entei trophy.
#27: Cold Armor
Character: Samus
Description: Brinstar depths is one of the most difficult stages to navigate, and in this Event, youll have to use that to your advantage. Your opponents are three metal Samus (each with two stock), while you only have one stock. In order to win this match, youll have to make use of their limited jumping capabilities. When the stage rotates, force the metal Samus into areas that are about to become unsafe. Thanks to their weight, they wont be able to jump to safety.
#28: Puffballs Unite!
Character: Choose
Description: You have to face fourteen Kirbys, each with their own copied ability. The problem is, you only have two minutes to KO all fourteen and these Kirbys do not have reduced weight. Choose a character who can pull of powerful smash attacks, as you have to do as much damage is possibly within a very short time.
#29: Triforce Gathering
Character: Link
Description: You and Zelda team up against Ganondorf in this Event match. Your main priority should be to KO Ganondorf, but be wary that you lose the match if Zelda is KOed. Try and work in tandem with Zelda to make short work of your opponent. Beat this Event to unlock Ganondorf.
#30: All-Star Match 3
Character: Choose
Description: This match has the same rules as the first two All-Stars. This time, your opponents are Kirby, Pikachu, Ness and the Ice Climbers. Damage isnt healed between fights, so try and acquire as little damage as possible in the first couple of fights so you can more afford to make mistakes later on.
Events 31-39-
Clear all of the available Event Matches and unlock Falco, Young Link, Jigglypuff and Luigi.
#31: Mario Bros. Madness
Character: Choose
Description: You, Mario and Luigi all have unlimited stock. You have two minutes to score more points than them. You gain one point for each KO, and lose one for each death or self-destruct. Simply KO one of the Mario brothers and stall the match until time runs out.
#32: Target Acquired
Character: Falco
Description: Jigglypuff is a sitting duck, waiting for either you or the Arwings to kill it. When the match ends, you must have scored more KOs on Jigglypuff than the Arwings, otherwise you fail. Go on the offence as soon as you can, using Falcos hard-hitting attacks to score KOs quickly.
#33: Lethal Marathon
Character: Captain Falcon
Description: You are running along the F-Zero racetrack from Adventure mode, however speed is set at x2 and getting hit by the passing cars will almost always kill you. You have to make it to the end of the track in 45 seconds, otherwise you lose the Event. Take advantage of Captain Falcons speed and you shouldnt have any trouble.
#34: Seven Years
Character: Young Link
Description: This is a simple battle between you and Link. You each have three stock, and there is no time limit, so just take your time and fight Link like you would any other opponent.
#35: Time for a Checkup.
Character: Luigi
Description: You have three minutes to KO Dr. Mario and Peach once each. This is fairly difficult Event, because Doc and Peach work very well as a team. Your only hope is to try and separate them, otherwise they will attack you in tandem and you will soon find yourself KOed.
#36: Space Travelers
Character: Ness
Description: This match is in the same vein as an All-Star match, however your can only use Ness, and you only fight on two different stages. On Fourside, you fight Samus, Kirby and Fox. On Battlefield, you fight Captain Falcon and Falco. In order to beat this Event, you will have to have practiced with Ness beforehand, otherwise your opponents will amass too much damage on you early on for you to win the later fights.
#37: Legendary Pokemon
Character: Choose
Description: Surprisingly, it isnt the four giant wire-frames that pose the biggest thread in this Event match, Jigglypuff does. Even though Jigglypuff doesnt directly attack you, she makes a beeline for any Pokeballs that appear on stage, whereas the wire frames will simply try and attack you. The Pokeballs in this stage are special, as they only summon legendary Pokemon (and Wobbuffet). Ignore the wire frames and get to the Pokeballs before Jiggly can, as they are your only hope of victory in this match. Beating this Event unlocks the character Pichu.
#38: Super Mario Bros. 2
Character: Choose
Description: Mario, Luigi and Peach gang up on you in this match. Itll be a tough slog, but you need to KO each of them twice to win. The easiest way to score KOs is to knock them off the left and right-hand sides of the stage (seeing as how the stage borders are very close on Mushroom Kingdom II), or by knocking them into the pits on either side of the center platform.
#39: Jigglypuff Live!
Character: Jigglypuff
Description: This is a simple three-on-one match. Try and keep track of which Jigglypuff you are, and head for items as soon as they appear. Kill every other Jigglypuff a total of three times to be victorious.
Events 40-50
Clear the first 30 Event Matches, and unlock all the hidden characters.
#40: All-Star Match 4
Character: Choose.
Description: This time, your opponents are Marth, Luigi, Jigglypuff, Mewtwo and Mr. Game And Watch, on Hyrule Temple, Mushroom Kingdom II, Poke Floats, Final Destination and Flat Zone. All other rules are the same as those in other All-Star matches, so you should know what to do here.
#41: En Garde!
Character: Marth
Description: This Event match is (thankfully) very simple. You versus Link, no time limit, two stock. You are much faster than Link, so keep the fight close, otherwise he will pummel you with projectiles. Make use of the fact that Marths sword hits its hardest at the tip, and try and lure Link to the top level when youre ready to go in for the kill.
#42: Trouble King 2
Character: Luigi
Description: This is a tough match. The massive Bowser youre facing takes up most of the stage, leaving you very little room to move and almost no room to dodge. Bowser can kill you in just a few hits, so focus on avoiding his attack and chipping away at his health when you can. Good luck.
#43: Birds of Prey
Character: Fox
Description: Big Blue is a tough stage to survive on, let alone fight on. Falcon and Falco attack relentlessly, so try separating them using Foxs reflector. You need to score two KOs on each of them to win. Use the dangerous nature of the stage to your advantage.
#44: Mewtwo Strikes!
Character: Choose
Description: What seems like a simple one-on-one with Zelda gets suddenly complicated when Mewtwo appears later on in the match. You can only KO Mewtwo, as KOing Zelda results in failure. Try and knock Zelda away from Mewtwo so you can fight him without having to worry about her getting in the way.
#45: Game & Watch Forever!
Character: Mr. Game & Watch
Description: The 25 other Game & Watches in this match hit unbelievably hard, but are also KOed very easily. As long as you can avoid the majority of their attacks, retaliating shouldnt be a problem. Use G&Ws Up+B if you get surrounded.
#46: Fire Emblem Pride
Character: Choose
Description: A two-on-one match between you, Marth and Roy. Splitting the two warriors up is the key to victory, as they are extremely dangerous when working in tandem. You have to score three KOs on each of them to win, so pick a character with good sweeping attacks and high durability to make short work of these formidable adversaries.
#47: Trophy Tussle 3
Character: Choose
Description: Just like the last Trophy Tussles, you face three random opponents, with a three-minute time limit, and two chances in your stock. This is a very hard Event, so it might be a good idea to keep restarting until you get a set of opponents you feel you can handle. Your award for surviving this hard slog is the Majoras Mask trophy.
#48: Pikachu and Pichu
Character: Choose
Description: This is a tough match, if only because the constant thunder jolts from the two Pichu make moving around and attacking a very difficult task. The Pikachu has unlimited stock, and is hell-bent on protecting the two Pichu. The Pichu, on the other hand, avoid you as much as possible and fire off thunder jolts from a distance. Damage Pikachu enough so that he is thrown a fair distance when hit, then focus your attacks on the Pichus until Pikachu gets back. Score one KO on each of the Pichus to win.
#49: All-Star Match Deluxe
Character: Choose
Description: The final All-Star match is the toughest one yet. This time, you face six opponents (Dr. Mario, Falco, Pichu, Young Link, Roy and Ganondorf) across six stages (Mushroom Kingdom, Venom, Pokemon Stadium, Great Bay, Hyrule Temple and Final Destination). You now have a four-minute time limit, but still only two stock. Damage is still carried over from match to match.
#50: Final Destination Match
Character: Choose
Description: In this match, you face the main villain, Master Hand, as well as his twin brother, Crazy Hand. The Master and Crazy Hands both have very similar attacks, although Crazy has some attacks that Master doesnt. It will take a considerable amount of skill to complete this Event, as you will have to learn to be able to both fight one hand and defend against both at the one time. Learn how to dodge each of the hands separate attacks, and when they work together, hang from either ledge to avoid any damage. Us continuous Up Smashes and aerial attacks to kill Crazy Hand first, then focus on taking out the less-dangerous Master Hand.
