The All-star rest area as seen in Super Smash Bros. Melee.....
and in Super Smash Bros. Brawl.
All-Star Mode is a one player game mode present in both Super Smash Bros. Melee and Super Smash Bros. Brawl. The premise of the mode is to defeat every character in the game with only one life, the damage you take is carried between matches. In between matches you can use heart container to heal yourself, but you only get 3 heart containers. In both games, this mode had to be unlocked by unlocking every character
In Super Smash Bros Melee you fought all the characters in random order, except for the last match which was always a team of Mr Game and Watches. Then first few match would be 1v1 then 1v2 and 1v3.
In Super Smash Bros Brawl some changes were made to the mode. Rather than just being in random groups, the characters are grouped into teams with all the other characters from their series, and rather than fighting them in random order and are in chronological order based on the release date of the first game in the series. It can also be played co-op with 2 players. When playing co-op, everything is essentially the same, except there are 5 hearts instead of 3 and in the last match there are 2 Olimars.
